BBC’s Gardeners’ World has given green-fingered enthusiasts useful tips during its time. But is presenter Monty Don leaving the 2020 series?
Best known as lead presenter of the gardening series Gardeners’ World since 2003, viewers have gotten to know Monty pretty well.
However recent news reports have led gardening fans to wonder whether the host is permanently leaving the series.
So is Monty Don leaving Gardeners World in 2020? Here’s the lowdown!
Monty Don on Gardeners’ World
Horticulture and gardening expert Monty Don, 65, has been the lead presenter of Gardeners World since 2003.
He replaced Alan Titchmarsh, before leaving the show in 2008 due to illness. However Monty returned to as the main host from 2011 onwards.
Since then, he has written and produced several garden series of his own, including Monty Don’s American Gardens which was aired in 2020.
However there are now rumours of Monty leaving the show, since he packed up the filming equipment that had taken over his home and garden.

Is Monty Don leaving Gardeners’ World 2020?

It has been confirmed that Monty signed a contract with the BBC earlier in 2020, to continue presenting Gardeners’ World for three years.
Rumours started to fly when the presenter filmed workmen packing up filming equipment from his back garden during the coronavirus pandemic.
Fans were shocked that he had been working to run the show mostly by himself. The final episode of Gardeners’ World 2020 aired on October 30th, so no more episodes will be airing this year.
Viewers were also worried about him leaving because he reached the retirement age of 65 years old on July 8.

When is Gardeners’ World coming back?
Monty announced that he hopes “normal filming” will resume next spring.
The live show of Gardeners’ World will take place between June 17th to 20th in 2021, at NEC Birmingham. Tickets are available to buy now.
However at the time of writing, a specific air date for the Gardeners’ World 2021 series has not yet been released.
This year, it came out on March 20th, so it is likely that the 2021 series will come out at around the same time.
