With the Eurovision Song Contests semi-finals kicking off tonight (Tuesday, May 14th), fans of the annual competition are speculating who could take home the prize this year.

Many acts are returning for their second shot at the Eurovision contest, including Russia’s Sergey Lazarev.

So does Sergey Lazarev have what it takes?

Here is everything you need to know about Sergey and his upcoming Eurovision performance.

Meet Sergey Lazarev…

36-year-old Sergey is a singer, dancer and actor originally from Moscow, Russia.

He rose to fame as one half of the pop duo Smash!!, but the group disbanded in 2006 after just six years of performing together.

Sergey was quickly nominated as a candidate to represent Russia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, however, did not have his chance until years later.

He represented Russia back in 2016 when the contest was held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Ukraine took the top spot that year with Jamala’s single ‘1944’.

But Sergey proved himself to be a tough competitor and won the hearts with his single ‘You Are The Only One’, which has over 13 million views on YouTube!

What song is Sergey taking to Tel Aviv?

Sergey will be performing his hit single ‘Scream’.

It’s hard to say whether this single will be enough to take him all the way, with stiff competition such as Dutch Duncan Laurence but we’re certain Sergey will have all of Russia behind him!

Check out Sergey’s single before his performance in the second heat of the Eurovision semi-finals (Wednesday, May 15th).
