Presented by Nigel Havers, BBC show The Bidding Room kicked off in June 2020. The now-hit daytime TV show features an array of expert dealers. So, let’s meet one of the cast – Ian Humphries.
All kinds of items enter The Bidding Room in series 1, from 1940s theatre costume designs to a Corpus Christi statue. There’s no saying what could appear on the show from episode to episode. As Nigel says: “Welcome to The Bidding Room, where anything can be bought and sold”.
Plus, the anticipation rises when the dealers, including James Broad, Jane Cave, Natasha Francis, Adrian Higham, James Gooch, Moses Otunla and Lucy Ryder Richardson, live-bid on sellers’ items. Who doesn’t love the thrill of a good auction show?
Who is dealer Ian Humphries?
Recognisable for his colourful tattoos and equally colourful shirts, Ian Humphries has been in the antique business since the 1980s. Anything quirky, vintage or retro is right up Ian’s street.
Yorkshire-born Ian loves dealing in anything unusual. For this expert, the weird and wonderful is what he’s after.
Ian enjoys searching for hidden gems hailing from anywhere between the 17th and 20th century. He writes on his website: “I’ve developed a great reputation for offering affordable antique and vintage pieces of furniture and decorative items to suit everyone’s budget and taste.” Ian can also be seen doing some vlogging on his website where he shows off his recent hauls from the “humble carboot sale”.
Ian Humphries on The Bidding Room
From The Bidding Room’s very first episode, Ian is a vocal dealer on the show who knows when to bid and when to dip out of the auction.
Ian loves quirky collectables, so viewers should be able to tell when an item comes out whether it will hold Ian’s interest or not. But, for a real glimpse at Ian’s personal style and taste, head over to his Instagram account, @manormonkeysantiques, where he has over 1,600 followers.
Antiques hold a special place in many people’s hearts as they carry such stories. And by the looks of things, self-confessed “antiqueaholic” Ian, loves to tell the stories of his pieces via blogs on his website.
He now runs his own business, Manormonkeys Antiques, which is based both online and in a physical shop in Worcestershire.
Ian sells both antique and decorative pieces at Manormonkeys. He has all kinds of antiques up for sale including furniture, fireside accessories, lighting, mirrors and objets d’art.
