The BBC Young Dancer 2019 finale airs tonight (Saturday, May 18th) on BBC Four.

The series aims to celebrate the very best young dancing talent in the UK, and the winner of the contemporary category was previously announced to be 19-year-old Matthew Rawcliffe.

Who is Matthew Rawcliffe?

Matthew Rawcliffe is a finalist on BBC Young Dancer 2019 after winning the contemporary category final.

In addition to appearing on the BBC show, Matthew is an Associate Movement Artist at The Pappy Show theatre company.

As well as performing on stage, Matthew has a keen interest in choreography and has previously made two short dance films.

According to his official website, Matthew is a huge fan of the hip-hop trio Young Fathers, the classic sitcom Gilmore Girls and milk chocolate digestive biscuits.

What did Matthew win?

Back in April 2019, Matthew competed in the contemporary final of the BBC series and performed in front of a judging panel made up of the biggest names in dance.

Matthew competed in his category alongside 19-year-old Max Cookward, 20-year-old Adanna Lawrence, 21-year-old Hannah Connor and 19-year-old Hana Kato.

Matthew emerged victorious in the contemporary category. and will now perform a brand new routine in the BBC Young Dancer 2019 final.

The routine was created by Sharon Watson, the Artistic Director of the Phoenix Dance Theatre.
