Where is Top Gear 2021 filmed? Locations explored for series on BBC One

Top Gear has landed on BBC for its 30th season running. Fans are wondering “Where is Top Gear 2021 filmed”. We look into locations the series was shot.

The series will feature Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuiness, who will be presenting for the fourth time on Top Gear. Since the shows original release in 2002, the show has been a commercial success in the UK and overseas.

Top Gear season 30 saw difficulties in filming and production, much like season 29, due to the pandemic. Fans are wondering about how they managed to shoot the series in the midst of restrictions.

Where is Top Gear 2021 filmed?

  • Top gear 2021 was filmed at the Television Centre in London for links and remaining footage within the UK.

Studio segments were filmed without a live audience and members of staff were “bubbled” for the production of the show.

McGuiness says “We had to stay in a bubble together as well … filming in the UK has been pretty easy, really”. It is not known at the time of writing this article, exactly where in the UK filming was carried out.

The usual shooting space at Dunsfold Aerodrome track was also cleared out for staff members to work from home. The remaining members stayed on to shoot links for studio elements but this is reportedly the “first time in nearly 20 years” that the Aerodrome would be vacated.

Where was it filmed last year?

For the most part, the cast and crew members have always travelled abroad to film each series. However, restrictions due to the pandemic made travel difficult for Top Gear staff this year and last.

Last year, Top Gear season 29 was filmed mostly in the UK with the exception of a segment in Cyprus. Top Gear managed to film in Cyprus before the pandemic and so they were able to add footage into the show from their time overseas. Other locations included Yorkshire, Alton Towers, Alexandra Palace and Bolton.

How many episodes will there be this season?

This year’s Top Gear 2021 is scheduled to feature 4 episodes due to the constraints of the pandemic. The first episode aired on 14th March 2021 and so the series will be expected to end mid-April.

However, there could potentially be the 5th episode as a tribute to their late driver Sabine Schmitz who passed away this month, but this has not been confirmed at the time of writing this article. Should anything change closer to the time of Season 30’s end, we will be sure to update this article so please check back with us.
