What is Roma About?
Roma is a semi-autobiographical account of Alfonso Cuarón’s upbringing in early 1970’s Mexico City.
The story is mainly told from the perspective of one of the nanny’s to a middle-class family, Cleo. She is played by first-time actress Yalitza Aparicio, who is also nominated for an Oscar.
The film explores themes of family, female strength, violence, political tensions and loneliness. Of course, it explores a great deal many other things too.
