Matt Lucas has joined The Great British Bake Off as its new host, alongside Noel Fielding.
The Channel 4 series returned to our screens last night (Tuesday 22nd), with comedian and actor Matt Lucas stepping in to replace Sandi Toksvig on the baking show. Bakers were seen putting their cake-making skills to the ultimate test under timed pressure – and Matt joined judges to taste all of their creations.
Some viewers wondered why Matt doesn’t have any hair, so we looked into why. This led some fans to believe that he might have alopecia. Is this the case? We found out for you!
Meet Matt Lucas
Matt is an actor from Paddington, London, who is best known for his roles in BBC sketch comedy series’ Little Britain, Rock Profile, and Come Fly With Me, which he starred in alongside David Walliams. He is also a writer and television personality.
The 46-year-old is now a host on The Great British Bake Off, and has been praised for his jokes. Many have said he was made for the show, with his opening impersonation as prime minister Boris Johnson kicking off the 2020 series on the first episode.

Does Matt have alopecia?
Matt confirmed that he has alopecia in a tweet earlier this year, when someone asked him why he was bald. He responded by saying he gets “asked this a lot”. He has had the hair loss condition since he was six, when he woke up one morning and saw his hair on the pillow. A few months later and all of his hair had fallen out.

Why do viewers wonder if Matt has alopecia?
The Great British Bake Off viewers wonder if Matt has alopecia because he doesn’t have any hair. A quick browse of Twitter and there was a lot of talk about his baldness.
One viewer wrote: “Can’t wait until I go bald and people will stop saying I look like James Corden, and start saying I look like Matt Lucas.”
While someone else said: “No one should be surprised at Matt Lucas hosting #GBBO. Tom Allen does professional bake off and Harry Hill does the kids one so they needed a third bald fella to complete the trilogy.”
Don’t think I’ve ever seen as bald a man as Matt Lucas
