Educating Greater Manchester: Meet headteacher Drew Povey on Instagram!

As Educating Greater Manchester comes back, Harrop Fold School’s then-headteacher Drew Povey has a main role. Here’s his Instagram!

As the 2020 series returns to Harrop Fold School in Little Hulton, Salford, episodes showcase year sevens who have a reputation for mischief.

The current series was filmed during 2018, the year Harrop Fold went into special measures and lost its headteacher, Mr Povey. So who is Drew Povey? We found him on Instagram!

Who is Drew Povey?

Drew now runs a consultancy firm with over twenty years of experience working in elite level sport and education.

On his website, he describes his work as an “influential leadership authority with a unique multi sector viewpoint on creating innovative and sustainable change”. Drew has written books such as The Leadership Factor.

He was the headteacher at Harrop Fold School in 2018, but reportedly resigned after calling an investigation a “personal vendetta”.

Drew, who has 3 sons with his wife, lives in Stockton Heath.

Drew on Educating Greater Manchester

Drew and 3 other senior staff members were sent home in 2018, after allegations that children were removed from the school register.

While on the series, he is seen managing Harrop Fold School, such as launching bag searches when the school is on high alert – after a member of the public calls to say they have seen a pupil with a knife.

He is also in charge of cracking down on sweets being sold on school grounds, which isn’t allowed.

The former headteacher has described himself as ‘developing people, inspiring excellence’ in his bio, and regularly shares inspiring quotes.

Known for his positivity, he uses his platform – which has over 1,900 followers – to share words of advice. In one post, hesaid:

If you’re being sucked into a state of worry, try where possible to focus your thinking on the good. Tune into the positives & fight that negativity bias we all face to counterbalance any negative feelings you might be having.
