The stereotype of a bloke sneaking off from a date to ‘check the United score’ just became a real-life situation.

First Dates star Leigh hit three horrendous strikes as he ruined his date with Becky thanks to football, ignorance and a dash of misogyny.

Here’s how Leigh became Channel 4‘s number one villain.

Strike 1: Those Reds are losing again

With the date teetering along nicely, 36-year-old Leigh killed the mood of the conversation when he asked waiter Grant to check on the football score.

Specifically, “the United score”.

Strike 2: Lie to your date and give her a 6.5

With the United score racing through Leigh’s mind, he excused himself from dinner for a quick cigarette.

Fortunately, Becky didn’t smoke, which allowed Leigh to get on the blower to his mate, while she also phoned a friend from the bathroom.

Chasing up the scores, Lee opened up about his date by using the type of language that only earns plaudits from the likes of Lad Bible.

What a lad, ay!

Strike 3: Wish your date was slimmer

The fact that Becky didn’t see or hear any of Leigh’s snide remarks made the entire date much worse for audiences at home.

As far as Bekz was concerned, this guy was a bit of a charmer.

Nonetheless, viewers at home were praying waiter Grant would give Leigh a good slap as he once again dived into some misogynistic views.

A bullet dodged

Fortunately, First Dates fans breathed a sigh of relief as Leigh confirmed that he didn’t’ want to see his date “romantically again”.

A bullet dodged on Becky’s part, and Twitter couldn’t have agreed anymore.

In the teaser trailer to next week’s episode, Becky will return for a second date with another man – hoorah!
