Meet Jess and Joe from First Dates

Steam punk enthusiast Joe is 27-year-old a teacher from Sheffield – he is on the hunt for “old-fashioned love”. He is paired with Victorian-wearing Jess, from Wolverhampton, who used to work at Black Country Living Museum.

After admitting that he wears his attire to work – which includes a suit, bow tie and walking stick – he tells the story of how he is currently teaching sex education to his pupils… and says “you’ve got me good” after saying they accused him of “never” having sex due to how he dresses!

He previously had one long-term three-year girlfriend, however he said he could no longer make her laugh.

However, that might all be about to change, because it looks like he could be the perfect match for 29-year-old biologist Jess, from Wolverhampton…

  • FIRST DATES: When was First Dates 2020 filmed? Why weren’t they social distancing?

How did their Victorian-esque date go?

Jess told of how people would shout at her as a result of her loud and eccentric personality at school. She also opened up about her career writing about birds, as an animal biologist.

Whereas Joe tells her that his life is boring, and that he plays video game Doom every day. And then they get to the nitty gritty about Joe’s outfit choice…

But it’s not long until it’s discovered that Jess used to dress as a Victorian, too!

Seemingly, Joe was pretty impressed, however she did later admit that her former job was the reason she didn’t arrive to the date in Victorian attire – as she “burned out”.

But although Joe works his charm and continues to make Jess laugh, it looks like they are different in some ways – such as the fact Jess doesn’t play games like Joe!

What happened next for Joe and Jess?

Joe gave a “cautious yes” that he thought Jess fancied him, as she said the most important thing is that you can have a laugh…

Then he announced that he would like to see her again. But the main question is, how did Jess respond? Did she fall for his Victorian ways in a modern era?

Ahhhhh, the awkwardness is real!

So, although the pair didn’t take things further, they ended their date on a good note.

Jess went on to say they “got on really well” and that she had “an amazing time” – however she didn’t feel they were quite the right fit. She blamed it on the fact that they didn’t talk about anything deep during their date.

You pepper the conversation with frivolity, but there needs to be some meat to the conversation.

Although Joe is still on the search for “old-fashioned” love, Jess has found a new man…
