Shipmates is finally here!

Channel 4’s answer to Love Island, Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents and The Apprentice all rolled into one kicks off on Friday, July 5th.

And while all the twenty-somethings are living their best lives, partying on one of the world’s most luxurious yachts, there is a certain someone behind the scenes dictating it all to us.

So who is the familiar voice of Shipmates?

Meet the Shipmates voiceover…

The voice behind the brand new series is none other than actor Stephen Mangan!

The 51-year-old Londoner has been is the acting business

He is married to the 49-year-old actress Louise Delamere, who has starred in both Waterloo Road and Holby City. The couple have three children together.

Stephen Mangan’s acting biography

Prior to acting, Stephen had pursued the career of law. He attained his BA in law from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.

After his mother died from colon cancer at the age of 45, he auditioned for one of the most prestigous drama schools in the country, the Royal Academy of Dramaic Arts (RADA).

He graduated in 1994 after three years of study.

 

Stephen worked mainly on the stage before venturing into the world of television.

What has he been in?

After he made his name for appearing in the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series Green Wing, he quickly went on to work on many other shows.

Stephen is known for his roles on television shows such as The Fake News Show, Houdini and Doyle, and best known for the American-British comedy series, Episodes.

Some of his film work includes the 2000 British classic Billy Elliot.

What else has Stephen Mangan narrated?

If you’re wondering why Stephen sounds so familiar as the voiceover of Shipmates, it’s because this is not the first series he’s narrated this year.

Prior to his work on Shipmates, he was working on another Channel 4 series: Married At First Sight!

He also does lots of work with BBC Radio stations, so you’ve heard his voice floating around or in adverts  for Barclaycard and more!
