It would seem that Channel 4 have a pretty gritty schedule lined up, with the release of Shane Meadows’ The Virtues and now the upcoming Adult Material.

But it is the cast of the upcoming drama Adult Material that is really getting people talking.

News of the series arrived in 2018 and was met with a great amount of excitement. The series promises to take an engaging dive into an industry that many know next to nothing about. Yet, it’s huge.

So, without further delay, let’s take a look into the world of Adult Material…

What is Adult Material?

This new drama series will tell the story of Jolene Dollar, our main character. Having been a popular adult entertainment star for much of her life, Jolene has seen the industry transform and adjust.

Now, we’ll have the chance to witness this transition through her eyes.

Channel 4 has said the show explores “what’s real, what’s fake, what’s up for sale and the impact that these things have on the individuals”.

It is written by Lucy Kirkwood who has also worked on other C4 shows such as Skins!

Adult Material Channel 4: Cast

The Adult Material cast has just been announced, however, more actors are still being added to the cast list.

The lead character Jolene Dollar was set to be played by Sheridan Smith, but this has since changed.

Now, Hayley Squires – who skyrocketed to fame as one of the lead characters in the heartwrenching Ken Loach film I, Daniel Blake – will play Jolene.

Also confirmed in the line-up is Vanity Fair’s Siena Kelly, Game of Thrones‘ Joe Dempsie and the legendary Rupert Everett.

When can we expect the show?

Unfortunately, there has been no release date.

Channel 4 has, however, confirmed that there will be four one-long episodes.

IMDb currently has Adult Material down as in pre-production and with the cast now confirmed, we would expect the show to be released later this year or early 2020.

Its dive into an industry told from the female perspective is surely worth waiting for.
