Celebrity Big Brother seems a bit of an odd one. You wouldn’t assume that the winning celeb would take home a tangible prize, right? They’re celebrities, after all.
In most other celebrity competition shows (Masterchef, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here etc), the winner doesn’t actually receive any extra prize money.
Toff from Made in Chelsea won I’m a Celeb but the only money she earnt from the series was the fee paid to her for entering the jungle – a fee all celebs get regardless of where they finish in the competition.
So what’s the deal with Celebrity Big Brother? Does the winning celeb even get prize money?
Is There Prize Money for Celebrity Big Brother?
In short, no.
There is no actual prize money for the winning star of Celebrity Big Brother 2018.
So What Does the Winner Actually Get?
Traditionally, the Celebrity Big Brother winner is given a winning pot of £50,000 to donate to a charity of his choice.
In this case, it should be Ryan Thomas.
However, the prize money hasn’t been mentioned at all, leading suspicions as to whether it is still going on.
With tight budgets at Channel 5, it looks as if the cash may have been spent on the Celebs’ wages, instead.
The emphasis was placed on providing entertainment and saving Big Brother from extinction as opposed to having the extra funds to continue their traditional charitable deed.
How do Celebrities Make Money From Big Brother?
Don’t feel too sorry for the Celebrity Big Brother housemates. They may not receive any prize money for being the last one standing, but they still take home a hefty sum of money for going on the show in the first place.
The celebs’ appearance fees differ depending on the star’s fame, but they all get paid for entering the house.
Ray J (of Kim K sex-tape fame) was paid a reported $1 million, while MP Anne Widdecombe was given £100,000.
In series 22, Roxanne Pallett was reportedly the highest earning on £750,000, with Jermaine Pennant just behind.
