Ingredients: Kate Humble’s dark sugar and oat soda bread

You will need quite a few ingredients to make the bread, which Kate was inspired to make by PJ’s Catering. You can also add trout on top if you wish, like the Escape to the Farm star did.

Luckily, most of them are staple household items, so it won’t require a massive shop beforehand!

These include: 100g coarse oatmeal, 225g water, 30g butter, 100g low fat yogurt, 200g cold milk, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 325g wholemeal, 1.5 tsp of bicarb, and 3/4 tsp of salt.

Patience is needed to make this recipe, as you’ll have to wait 15 minutes to let the oats soak before you can really get stuck in and get your hands messy. Then, the baking time in the oven takes 45 minutes.

All worth it for this delicious bread – and the steps are pretty easy!

Step 1: Preheat oven to 180 C.

Step 2: Soak oats in boiled water for 15 mins in the large bowl

Step 3: Add butter from side plate into bowl, which will just melt from heat of the water.

Step 4: Add yogurt, milk, and sugar. Mix using a spoon.

Step 5: Stir the flour, bicarb and salt into the mixture using same spoon

Step 6: Pour mixture into greased and lined cake tin.

Step 7: Cover with foil and bake in oven for 15 minutes.

Step 8: Wearing oven gloves, remove the foil and bake for a further 30 minutes.

Step 9: Wearing oven gloves, remove from and place on cooling rack.

Step 10: Once it has cooled, try the bread for yourself!
