Is Somebody Feed Phil season 5 confirmed? Let’s consider the renewal status of the Netflix travel series with Philip Rosenthal.
Netflix has offered audiences plenty of notable titles this year, whether we’re talking about the insanity of lockdown hit Tiger King or films from such lauded filmmakers as Spike Lee (Da 5 Bloods), Charlie Kaufman (I’m Thinking of Ending Things) and Antonio Campos (The Devil All the Time).
However, there’s one title which stands out. Why? Because it combines many audiences’ two greatest loves: travelling and food.
Of course, we’re talking about Somebody Feed Phil, which returned for its triumphant fourth season on Friday, October 30th 2020.
Fans have been following Phil on his foodie quest since 2018, although it’s worth noting that the Netflix show is somewhat of a successor to I’ll Have What Phil’s Having on PBS.
After heartily tucking into four courses, hopes have inevitably turned to a fifth to cleanse the palette.
But, is it confirmed yet?
Is Somebody Feed Phil season 5 confirmed?
- No, Somebody Feed Phil season 5 is yet to be confirmed by Netflix. However, some perspective from Phil is enough to have fans feeling optimistic about renewal.
A number of shows have been cancelled in 2020 as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic and all of our lifestyles have changed significantly.
When it comes to production on TV shows, the cast and crews have all been forced to adapt and this is something Phil touched upon during an interview with The Wrap regarding Somebody Feed Phil:
“I think the show might have to now be called, ‘Somebody Feed Phil al Fresco,’ to take the safety into consideration. But you can still explore many different cultures and meet people and stay safe at the same time. And if that’s the world we’re in, that’s what we should address. People should not be afraid and sit in their houses, there’s ways to do it safely.”
As you can imagine, travel-themed shows will likely be hit harder by the pandemic, considering travel has become more difficult under consistently revised safety measures.
Nevertheless, if Phil is up to the task then renewal could be on the cards.
While Netflix doesn’t tend to disclose viewing figures, the fact that it has reached season 4 lends some insight into the show’s popularity.
When can we expect Somebody Feed Phil season 5?
While the turnaround with season 4 was rather swift, there’s no reason to expect season 5 so soon; if it’s given the official go-ahead, that is.
Seasons 1 and 2 were both released in 2018, in January and June respectively. There was then a lengthier gap with the next season, with season 3 arriving in May 2020 and season 4 in October 2020.
If renewal is confirmed, it’s more likely that season 5 will premiere on Netflix sometime around November 2020.
