Episode one of First Dates Hotel proved utterly heart-wrenching.
Air steward David opened up about a traumatic past, where he was appearing on First Dates to help complete a full circle of moving on from a previous relationship.
David was one of the first to have a gay marriage in Bristol, although the love of his life committed suicide after over 20 years together.

Dave and His Love
David explained how he met the man of his dreams, Glen, back in 1980’s while attending an aerobics class.
The pair headed out to a gay club after working up a sweat and things lovingly spiralled out of control from there…

David’s Heartbreak: Glen’s Suicide
David explained that he was ready to fall in love again, and was desperate to feel that special connection of romantic companionship.
Glen, his partner of 21 years, committed suicide in 2011 after a lifetime together.
Something Dave still has trouble coming to terms with.

David said: He was very protective over me. You know; ‘everything’s fine, everything’s rosy in the garden’. You beat yourself up so much about it – what if I only knew more? What if I asked more questions?”

Dave explained to his date, Andrew, that he took off his wedding ring for the date and elaborated that he was ready for a new chapter in life.
The cosy dinner went swimmingly with the pair devouring more than one bottle of wine and ending the night snuggled up on the sofa beds outside.
Although they decided not to see each other again due to certain differences, both David and Andrew admitted to a thoroughly enjoyable time away in Italy.
Oh, the wonders of wine…
