Fans of First Dates Hotel were forced to endure one of the most awkward dates in reality TV history.
For many, watching 23-year-old Sophie break down in tears during her date with Daryl proved excruciatingly difficult to watch.
There’s awkward. Then there’s watching someone cry while on a date awkward.
Meet Sophie
Former student and now magazine designer Sophie was unbearably nervous as she got ready for her date.
Single for seven years, she was feeling the pressure as she got ready for dinner.
Her high expectations probably didn’t help, considering her ‘ideal man’ was drawn up on a clipboard with several pages of detailed info.
There’s an appearance section, a personality section and then, like, an end-goals section.”
The (Incredibly Awkward) Date
Sophie met 24-year-old Daryl from London, where it was all fun and games as they grabbed a couple of cocktails from Merlin.
Joking over how many kids they wanted and baby names, this date looked like a recipe for love.
However, the date took a sudden turn for the worst.
Daryl nipped to the toilet as Sophie appeared to have a mental breakdown while chatting with waitress Laura.
Sophie confessed that her date was “nice” but not the “love of her life” like she had noted down on the colossal criteria form she had produced.
Devastated, she started to cry…
From Bad to Worse
Following a pep talk from Laura, the hysterical Sophie managed to mop up her tears before her date returned.
However, things went from bad to worse.
The mood turned sour as a couple of wayward jokes hit Sophie like a knife to the ribs rather than a tickle to the belly.
Having somehow managed to reduce his date to tears, Daryl was forced into scraping together an apology.
Although repeatedly saying sorry, Daryl looked like a sailor lost at sea as Sophie continued to cause herself distress.
Even Laura didn’t want to get involved this time…
Leaving Italy Empty-handed
Meltdown complete, Daryl earned plenty of praise on social media as marched around the table to give Sophie a hug, whispering to her “don’t be embarrassed”.
The pair decided not to see each other again, agreeing that the sexual chemistry wasn’t really there following a tedious first date.
