First Dates barman Merlin was taken by surprise when one of episode four’s customers ordered a certain fluorescent blue alcopop.
Although there are more than 100 spirits available at the First Dates’ Paternoster Chop House restaurant, bingo enthusiast David had a thirst for one thing.

The loveable 41-year-old train manager bounced into the First Dates restaurant for dinner with female sumo wrestler Sharran.
Who wouldn’t want a date with this guy…

From here, David delved into his knowledge of drinks, chomping at barman Merlin’s hand as he asked the magic question.
It’s as if David had practised the scene in the mirror…
David’s date, Shazza, sported more of a grimace than a smile at this point.
Presumably, because the last time she heard a male voice ordering a blue WKD, it came from her 15-year-old neighbour who was attempting to get some booze from the local off-licence.
Subtlety
Following Merlin’s delivery of the tragic ‘no WKD’ news, David left his barman with the tricky task of somehow replicating a WKD in cocktail form.
Right.
Just anything with sugar syrup, water, vodka and a ton of blue food colouring…
Despite David’s tedious start to the date, he quickly made a joke about his love of WKD and smoothed things over with Shazza.
Come on, he is a bit adorable…
Sharran and David’s went swimmingly from here on, despite a hiccup where ‘Big Dave’ whipped out his Ziggy teddy bear.
