Love Island 2021: Why are blue ribbons worn during the baby challenge?

There are six new islanders entering the villa, apart from they’re half the size of the current islanders and are already causing tantrums.

The sneak peek for tonight’s episode shows the Love Island cast to be wearing blue ribbons on their arms, and everyone is desperate to find out the reason why.

Each year we see the couples get put to the test as they’re tasked with looking after fake babies for an episode. It always causes some stirs as they get put under the pressure of becoming parents.

Tonight is the night we get to see the couples turn into mum and dad’s and Love Island fans are on the edge of their seats for 9 pm to strike.

Why are blue ribbons worn during the baby challenge?

  • The blue ribbons are worn for the babies as they have a fob sensor attached.

The buckles on the ribbons look much like a FitBit but in fact, they act as a baby monitor and are to do with the islander’s or ‘parent’s’ proximity to the baby.

The colour of the ribbons have changed each year for example for Love Island 2019 which featured the likes of Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae the cast wore blue ribbons, then, in the winter Love Island in 2020, they all wore red ribbons.

The ribbons are worn as islanders get to grips with parenthood and realise that being a parent really is a full-time job. In tonight’s series, we will see islanders look after fake babies and discover whether the couples are up to potential futures together as new parents.

In previous years fans of the show thought that the ribbons were a tribute to the former presenter, Caroline Flack, who sadly passed away. However, other internet users pointed out that the ribbons have been worn in previous years too.

What’s in store for tonight’s episode

Not only do they have to feed, comfort and change the nappy of their fake baby but after all of that one couple will be dumped from the villa.

Although the most important part for the couples seemed to be deciding the names; Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole decided their little boy would be called Tommy, while Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank opted for Benjamin.

Faye Winter and Teddy Soares decided on Remi, Mary Bedford and Aaron Simpson named their little one Sienna, Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran went for Marley and Millie Court and Liam Reardon’s has called their baby Jackson.
