Why are blue ribbons worn during the baby challenge?
- The blue ribbons are worn for the babies as they have a fob sensor attached.
The buckles on the ribbons look much like a FitBit but in fact, they act as a baby monitor and are to do with the islander’s or ‘parent’s’ proximity to the baby.
The colour of the ribbons have changed each year for example for Love Island 2019 which featured the likes of Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae the cast wore blue ribbons, then, in the winter Love Island in 2020, they all wore red ribbons.

The ribbons are worn as islanders get to grips with parenthood and realise that being a parent really is a full-time job. In tonight’s series, we will see islanders look after fake babies and discover whether the couples are up to potential futures together as new parents.
In previous years fans of the show thought that the ribbons were a tribute to the former presenter, Caroline Flack, who sadly passed away. However, other internet users pointed out that the ribbons have been worn in previous years too.
