Episode: The Family Brain Games – Smiths Vs Simmons (No. 2)

The Family Brain Games: The application process

Eight brainy families all took part in the first series of The Family Brain Games.

The show’s host Dara Ó Briain said they “put the net out really far and wide” to find these families.

The families who were largely successful and scored highly across the board on a cognitive test were the families who made it on to the show.

Hampshire, alongside Imperial College where he conducts his research, then tested the families individually to find out who had strengths where; numeracy, geometrics and linguistics, for example.

Test out your intelligence at home!

Before taking part on the show, the families all had to undergo cognitive pre-screening through an online intelligence test called The Cognitron and designed by Dr Adam Hampshire.

If you want to test out your mental agility and see how you’d fare, try out The Cognitron here!

There are four categories to be tested: cognitive ability, memory, reasoning and co-operation.
