How many people have won Who Wants To Be A Millionaire UK?

  • Six.

Over the course of the initial run of the show (1998 to 2014), five contestants won the ultimate prize of one million pounds – Charles Ingram’s cheating scandal would have made it six. Now, including the relaunch with Jeremy Clarkson, it has been reported that a sixth winner will be announced during the 2020 series.

  1. Judith Keppel – the garden designer was the first person to win the jackpot of 1 million in 2000, two years after the show first went to air. She is now part of the brainiacs behind BBC’s Eggheads.
  2. David Edwards – a physics teacher by trade, David the second winner in the show’s history, just a few months after Judith Keppel in April 2001.
  3. Robert Brydges – the Oxford-educated banker from Holland Park was the third winner of the 1 million pounds prize in September 2001. Fun fact: he won a few days after the Ingram cheating scandal.
  4. Pat Gibson – the Irish-born professional quizzer was the first to have two lifelines when he reached the final question – making him the fourth winner of the million pounds jackpot in April 2004. He is a multiple quiz champion and is regarded as one of the best quizzers in the world.
  5. Ingram Wilcox – the fifth person to win the million dollars was the 74-year-old ex-civil servant and father of five. He has since then retired and moved to the South of France with his wife.

A sixth winner?

Series 35 of the show does not have an official airing date yet. Nonetheless, the new series has promised viewers with a sixth winner of the show – the first in 14 years!
