The 2019 series of Britain’s Got Talent continues, and so does the ever-eccentric audition process.

On this week’s episode (Saturday, May 19th) viewers were introduced to the traditional Truro Cathedral Choir, who wowed the BGT judges and audience watching at home with their powerful vocals.

In addition to their obvious talent, the choir also boast a very interesting history. So, who are the Truro Cathedral Choir? Here’s everything you need to know about the Britain’s Got Talent stars!

Who are the Truro Cathedral Choir?

The Truro Cathedral Choir date back to the 1880s, and whilst the Truro Cathedral was under construction, services would take place in a wooden shed.

Usually, the choir consists of twelve professional singers, each of whom is either a lay vicar or choral scholar. The adult singers are joined by either eighteen boy choristers or eighteen girl choristers.

According to the Cathedral’s official website, the religious institution welcomes people from all background and aims to create an inclusive sacred space.

Visitors of the Truro Cathedral can expect to experience music, arts, various events, learning, and of course worship.

Where is the Truro Cathedral?

Truro is a Church of England cathedral in the city of Truro, Cornwall.

The ancient cathedral is situated right in the middle of the Cornish city, and in the centre of the entire county.

The cathedral was completed in 1910 and boasts impressive gothic revival architecture. It is also one of only three UK cathedrals to have three spires.

What happened during the audition?

During their Britain’s Got Talent audition, the Truro Cathedral Choir performed an original version of the Elton John classic, Can You Feel the Love, which you might recognise from Disney’s The Lion King.

The choir were a hit with the live audience and received a standing ovation from judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams, and Amanda Holden.

After sailing through to the next round, the choir now hope to be selected as one of the BGT semi-finalists.
