What is the Hatton Garden robbery?

The Hatton Garden safe deposit burgalry was one of the greatest heists of the decade.

Back in 2015, over the Easter weekend, a group of elderly veteran thieves banded together to rob the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company in London’s ‘diamond district’.

After what can only be described as a made-for-movie robbery sequence which lasted through the night, the team of robbers carted wheelie bins away from the scene of the crime carrying between up to  £200 million – the estimates vary greatly – of goods.

Nine suspects were arrested on May 19, 2015, after surveillance footage emerged and four men pleaded guilty with a further three being convicted after trial.

A hole is pictured after having been re-drilled in the wall used by burglars to access the underground vault of the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company.

Where is Hatton Garden filmed?

Locations throughout central London have been confirmed to be used.

The Rheidol Rooms, a popular cafe in Islington, North London, was used as one of the locations to plot out the robbery.

Besides that specific location, filming was done around the Hatton Garden area of London.

But for the actual robbery scene, we assume it was filmed on set rather than in the actual safety deposit which is obviously extra-secured now for safety measures!

When is Hatton Garden on?

Hatton Garden will air on ITV from Monday, May 20th 2019 at 9 pm.

The four-part miniseries will then air each weeknight until its conclusion on Thursday, May 23rd.

The reason for this schedule is largely to do with the legal complications which prevented the show’s prior release. But however we get to watch it, we’re just excited it’s finally out!
