In last night’s episode (Thursday, May 23rd) of DIY SOS, viewers were introduced to the rather remarkable Philp family.

Stuart and his mother Lin had their lives transformed by the renovations, but it was a third family member who really stood out to viewers…

Meet Lauren Philp…

15-year-old Lauren from Torquay is a rather brilliant teenager.

Viewers were stunned by her maturity faced with difficult circumstances. Caring for both her father who has multiple sclerosis and her blind grandmother, she has huge responsibility for someone at such a young age.

In the episode, we witnessed how Lauren helps out Grandma Lin guiding her through the newly renovated house.

It clearly meant a lot to Lauren and we all blubbered alongside her when she saw the braile artwork they had installed in the house!

The renovation offered the chance for her father and grandmother to gain some more independence, easing the pressure on Lauren.

It also offered the chance for Lauren to have her own space. This included an en-suite bathroom and a ‘beach hut’ at the end of the garden which she could use as a private chill out space.

What did Lauren have to say about the renovation?

Lauren was moved to tears by the transformation of their family home into a space they can all use freely.

During the episode she said “It’s a big deal, a massive deal… It feels like a home”.

She’s clearly a fan of the bedroom Nick Knowles and the team built for her, as she regularly posts snaps in her gorgeous new space to her Instagram.
