With the latest series of Grand Designs comes more insightful knowledge from the ever-inspirational Kevin McCloud.
The Grand Designs presenter has been hosting the Channel 4 series for almost 20 years, with his quizzical personality and unrivalled building knowledge very much a staple of the show.
But who is Kevin McCloud? And what makes him the perfect man for Grand Designs?
Kevin is a Doctor in his Field
In 2005, Kevin was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Design from both Oxford Brookes and Plymouth University.
His knowledge of architecture and design is basically unrivalled, and he has published several books on home decor and lighting.
He Has an MBE
To go along with his Doctor tag, Kevin was awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to sustainable design and energy saving property refurbishment in 2014.
This came off the back of the housing development company that he had founded, HAB Housing Limited (Happiness, Architecture, Beauty), securing a world record crowdfunding deal.
HAB secured investments in excess of £1.9 million via online platform Crowdcube.
Kevin is a Millionaire
According to Celebrity Networth, Kevin enjoys a fortune of around £2 million.
Alongside his housing development company and TV presenting role, Kevin provides key advice for would-be property developers and renovators across the world.
He also has a wife called Suzanna and four children – Elsie, Milo, Grace and Hugo.
He Studied the History of Art and Architecture
Now it’s all coming together!
The architecture buff studied History of Art and Architecture at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he became friends with a few famous faces.
As a member of the Footlight comedy club, Kevin would regularly hang out with Stephen Fry and actor Hugh Laurie.
Kevin Has Presented Grand Designs Since 1999
Saying that Grand Designs wouldn’t be the same without big Kev McCloud would be a huge understatement.
The 59-year-old was there when the show launched series 1 in 1999, making him 40 at the time.
He’s now racked up 182 episodes – and counting!
