Great British Menu is back in 2019 to see some of the UK’s best chefs battle it out!

The new series kicked off back on Wednesday, March 20th and there has been a steady stream of culinary creatives on this year’s show.

One of those contestants fighting it out to win their spot cooking for this year’s prize banquet is Hrishikesh Desai.

So who is Hrishikesh? Here’s everything you need to know about the chef to beat.

Who is Hrishikesh Desai?

Hrishikesh is competing in the North West heat of the competition and to prepare the starter.

He currently is the executive chef at a five-star hotel in the Lake District called the Gilpin Hotel and Lake House.

Hrishikesh earnt his first solo Michelin Star in 2016 after just one year of working there – he’s going to be a tough competition!

What is his culinary past?

Hrishikesh was set on a career as a chef after winning a scholarship to the Institut Paul Bocuse in Ecully, France.

But it was winning the coveted Roux Scholarship in 2009 that skyrocketed his career.

Because he won, Hrishikesh could train under chef Thomas Keller at the three Michelin-starred restaurant, The French Laundry in California.

So he’s clealry already a very accomplished chef!

Where else have I seen Hrishikesh?

He was the winner of BBC2’s show, Alex Polizzi: Chefs on Trial in 2015.

Hrishikesh took the position of executive chef at the Gilpin Hotel after winning the show.

But who knows what will happen if Hrishikesh wins on the Great British Menu!
