Here’s everything you need to know about Janey Lowes, the vet who moved to Sri Lanka to found a charity for stray dogs!

Meet Janey Lowes…

Janey, now 30, upended her life in County Durham at the age of 26 to move to Sri Lanka.

From a young age, she was passionate about animals and it was her dream to become a vet. This dream was realised after she graduated from veterinary school in 2012.

But Janey quickly became disillusioned by being a vet in Britain, feeling like her talents were not being fully utilised. On the show, she says she didn’t feel she was doing enough to save the lives of animals.

Janey’s move to Sri Lanka

After backpacking in Sri Lanka in 2014, Janey noticed how many stray street dogs were in need of medical assistance.

She began to help dogs she saw on the street, which is where her next brilliant idea came from.

In 2016, Janey bought a building in Sri Lanka with a whopping £10,000 donation from the Westway Veterinary Group, and moved away from home to set up a free veterinary clinic.

WECare Worldwide

Janey founded the charity WECare Worldwide and since then it has gained a full team of nurses and vets who share her passion for helping these poor pups.

It is not a dog shelter, but rather a veterinarian clinic where they keep the dogs until they’ve recovered from operations or treatments. Janey tends to keep the dogs in the clinic until they’ve been adopted.

Over the past four years, WECare Worldwide have treated over 6,000 animals!

If you love what the charity does, then you can donate to help continue their work here.

Do you recognise this dog? Because we almost didn’t! Back in November last year, we posted about Dobble – the pint-sized pup with big ears and an even bigger personality ✨ She’d been found on the streets with a HUGE maggot wound on her neck, and was nursed back to health at the clinic – looking a lot like Frankenstein for a while ? She found herself a loving home at one of our adoption days earlier this year and when we went back to check on her, she’d grown so much – and into her ears – we barely recognised her! ? But when her ears pricked up, we knew it was our Dobble. She now lives in nearby Talalla with two other dogs, living the life of Riley ? Love ya, Dobble! ? ~ ~ ~ ~ #lankalivin #BecauseWECare #streetdogs #travelsrilanka #adoptdontshop #lankalife #bethechange #volunteer #puppiesinparadise #vet #vetmed #veterinary #vetlyfe #surfsrilanka #wecare #srilanka #streetvet #srilankanstreetdogs #vetschool #charity #vetnurse #charitysrilanka

We found the gorgeous Janey on Insta, @janeythevet!

Here she posts lots of pictures of the cutest pups you’ll ever see and pictures of Sri Lanka that will make you want to immediately hop on a plane and go there.

But Janey also uses her Instagram to share the brutal reality of being a vet, so be prepared for the occasional horror pics!
