Which disease does Ali suffer from?
The Teen Mom 2 cast member’s daughter suffers from muscular dystrophy. Leah has explained on the show and in her memoir titled Hope, Grace & Faith, that her pre-teen daughter suffers from”one of the more rare forms of MD” called Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy with TTN mutation.
Ali was diagnosed with Titin Myotonic muscular dystrophy back in 2014. At the time, there were only 20 individuals around the world with the same diagnosis.
MD with the TTN mutation is a progressive genetic disorder that leads to weakness in the voluntary muscles on the hip and shoulder areas. There is a danger that this muscle weakness may spread to other muscles of the body. In severe cases, muscular dystrophy can lead to reduced life expectancy among the patients.

Leah Messer discusses daughter’s health on reunion
The mom of three broke down while discussing Ali’s health condition in the Teen Mom 2 reunion’s part 2 promo. In the clip Dr Drew says, “A quick thing on Ali’s disorder, her muscular dystrophy – I caught that the doctor was changing her prognosis a bit, because they now have a bigger cohort with her rare genetic, specific problem, right?”
To this, the 29-year-old star replied saying, “Yes, I have so much good news about this.”
Leah reveals the good news is that she partnered with a not-for-profit organisation and sent Ali’s muscle biopsy from 2012 to Ohio State University for research. She then revealed that the researchers are finally “finding a cure.”
The MTV star passionately added, “Don’t tell me f****ng science isn’t real because that’s my daughter’s livelihood.”
