Shipwrecked 2019 launched on Monday, January 28th.

The series was something of a revolutionary reality TV series when it first aired in 2000, launching before even Big Brother was on the scene.

However, from T4 to E4, producers have toyed with the format to give Shipwrecked a more modernised twist.

Frankly, it’s pretty damn sh*t.

It’s Trying to be Love Island

The main Shipwrecked 2019 is epically failing is because it’s attempting to replicate Love Island.

Due to the huge global success of Love Island, every TV network seems to believe that chucking romance into the equation will instantly make things better.

And not just any type of romance, either. It’s all about that ‘you’re fit, I’m fit, let’s fit our pieces together’ type of romance.

Shipwrecked used to be about survival, now it’s more like Ex on the Beach.

The Contestants Aren’t Real

The Shipwrecked cast don’t really doesn’t real or relatable.

I don’t mean because they are 77% plastic and pumped up with lip filler, but the general public finds it much easier to relate to Dave the plumber than international model Harry Goodwins.

Shipwrecked used to be about the everyday civilian taking on island life. Now we’ve got this guy…

It Looks Fake AF

For some reason, the trailer looked as if it has had two Lark filters, a Juno filter and a Ludwig swished over the top of it.

While the original Shipwrecked format was nitty-gritty, grey and gloomy at times, the 2019 version feels like another pre-scripted piece of reality TV trash.

The contestants are gifted with luxury items and pretty much given full shelter upon arrival.

The Humour is Way Off

The trailer tied in a Castaway joke – haha – while also having other contestants do topical things such as flossing.

FFS.

You’re supposed to be surviving for your life on an island, eating worms and smelling like a hobo – not flossing!

Original to Unoriginal

To put it simply, E4 have managed to make an original TV series very unoriginal.

What was previously a unique and interesting social experiment looks as if it has been turned into yet another reality TV show about sex, topless hunks, flirting, women in bikinis and brain cell-killing banter.

WATCH SHIPWRECKED ON E4 EVERY WEEKNIGHT FROM JANUARY 28TH.
