Over the years, we have been introduced to some stand-out characters on First Dates.
And last night’s episode was no different…
In episode 7 (Tuesday, May 28th) we met Giovanni Malacrino, who is a bit of a local celeb in his hometown of Cardiff, Wales and has even appeared on Come Dine With Me!
But we think Giovanni, despite his sweetness and charm, was never going to bowl over his date for the evening, June…

What happened between Giovanni and June?
Both Giovanni (61) and June (54) were looking for love after years of being single.
Giovanni and his ex-wife separated in 2001 and she then moved to Italy with their two children. Hearts broke across the nation to see Giovanni in tears over his kids and fans were desperate for things to work out between the two.
And after they both fit the bill for their ideal date, viewers were optimistic that this couple would be added to the list of First Dates’ success stories!
Giovanni flashes the charm
After hearing of June’s penchant for Italian men, you would think Giovanni was set to wow on his date from the get-go.
Giovanni confidently swanned into the restaurant and challenged Fred Sirieix to a battle of the ‘languages of love’, with Italy trumping France.
He even left Cici looking a little starry-eyed!
As Giovanni won over the First Dates’ staff, viewers thought he had this date in the bag… But things tragically did not go according to plan.
Opinion: Giovanni was not the one from the start
Despite fitting the characteristic on June’s “wish list”, Giovanni was not the one for her from the start of the date and we all knew it!
June said he was a “real gentleman” and that “he did tick a lot of those boxes”, but there was obviously some spark missing.
After she described her ex-partner as “the love of [her] life”, we think June was looking for someone to really sweep her off her feet. And sadly, Giovanni was not the man to do it.

And although their date was filled with laughter and at one point there was a sing-a-long to Nat King Cole’s ‘Smile’, we think the date was more friendly than flirty on June’s part…
