Last year, Sam Thompson admitted to suffering from anxiety.
The Made in Chelsea star often cuts a nervous and agitated figure when on screen, often flustered when in pressured situations.
Add streams of sweat when conversations turn awkward and you’d think that reality TV is his nightmare.
Surely, pushing the ‘Vegas-Diana’ storyline when Sam was so against it only caused unnecessary problems for the 26-year-old?
Sam Thompson’s Mental Health
Sam has admitted to suffering from anxiety in the past. In 2017, he told the Daily Star that the routine of filming with Made in Chelsea helped to ease his anxiety.
A high-energy personality, Sam needs to be kept busy.
Sam said: I’m super energetic. I try to be as happy as possible, but when you go so up, you’re always gonna have a greater down. You can’t keep up that level of energy forever.
I get in my own head a lot. My worst enemy is my head and you can get trapped in your own thoughts, so it’s good to talk to people about that sort of thing. I used to suffer from it really bad when I didn’t know what it was, but it’s actually got a lot better.”
Sam Thompson’s Gym Life
Another key aspect in transforming Sam’s lifestyle has been an emphasis on health and fitness.
Sister Louise has her own book, mobile app and has featured on the front cover of Women’s Health.
Sam is quickly catching her up, however, with an Instagram page full of ‘progress pics’.
The 26-year-old says that focusing his time and energy on the gym has helped with his anxiety, boosting confidence at the same time.
Sam’s Instagram post read: It’s helped me so much to deal with my anxiety, and I’d recommend anyone who suffers with that to get to the gym!”
Growing!! 🕺🕺 snow ain’t stopping me! I know I do a fair amount of topless photos, but I want to share my journey with you guys, because fitness does mean quite a lot to me. It’s helped me so much to deal with my anxiety, and I’d recommend anyone who suffers with that to get to the gym! I’m going to be doing an Instagram live on Monday to talk all about it. Hope everyone has an awesome evening! ❤️
Sam Thompson’s ‘Vegas Girl’
Throughout episode three of Made in Chelsea: Croatia, you couldn’t help but feel for Sam Thompson.
He was against the idea of calling his Vegas fling – Diana Larionov – and inviting her to Croatia.
In fact, Sam looked distraught at the prospect…
Despite Sam’s best protests, Diana still came to town.
Although it was Jamie Laing who ‘put in the call’ to fly Diana over to Croatia, producers obviously need to be part of the process.
Comments were made on Sam’s clear anxiousness throughout the episode, where he either looked unbearably uncomfortable, ghostly white or was alarmingly quiet.
For a man who we all know suffers from anxiety, was the Diana storyline a stretch too far?
Or is this just part of the reality TV job?
WATCH MADE IN CHELSEA: CROATIA EVERY MONDAY NIGHT ON E4, AT 9 PM.
