Bravo is an American cable television network and has been in service since 1980. Owned by NBCUniversal Television started out by airing programs related to fine arts and film but has since morphed into some of the best US reality TV out there.
From the likes of The Real Housewives franchise, Below Deck, and Vanderpump Rules, Bravo TV provides viewers with bingeworthy and gripping reality TV.
When it first launched 40 years ago, Bravo was a commercial-free premium channel and co-owned by Cablevision and Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment. By the following year it was subscribed in 48,000 households, and four years later it grew to 350,000. Today, it’s estimated around 90 million American households, or 77%, receive Bravo.
The channel saw huge success with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2003, which amassed 3.5 million viewers. It led to the network looking to add more iconic reality TV shows to the lineup. These morphed into Project Runway, Million Dollar Listing, Top Chef and The Real Housewives of Orange County.
Most of these spawned multiple spin-off shows and franchises, with The Real Housewives going global with shows all over the world.
Other successful shows include Southern Charm, Married to Medicine and Summer house.
Stars of the iconic series are hailed Bravolebrities, a different type of celebrity in themselves as they stem from the hit Bravo TV shows. Some of the biggest names include Lisa Vanderpump, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Andy Cohen, Ciara, Cynthia Bailey, Teresa Guidice, Shep Rose and Kandi Burruss.
