As The Voice gets a taste of the ‘new normal’ this weekend with the anticipated semi-finals, we look at who semi-finalist Gevanni Hutton is.
The semi-finals were originally set to take place in March, but due to the ongoing pandemic were pushed back until it was safe to do so.
Gevanni Hutton is a part of Team Will and will be competing for the title of The Voice UK finalist 2020 this Saturday.
Who is Gevanni Hutton?
Seventeen-year-old Gevanni auditioned in the blind auditions with the Romeo and Juliet hit Everybody’s Free by Quindon Tarver and blew the audience away.
Originally from Kingston in Jamaica, Gevanni now attends Kingston College in South-West London after moving to Kingston in England two years ago.
He has an Instagram under the handle @1negevanni with just over 2k followers, which he regularly uploads behind-the-scenes images from his The Voice UK journey on.
Gevanni Hutton also has type-1 diabetes, which he says has helped him grow as a person: “When I was younger, I would have probably had that thought, ‘Oh, it’s going to be a struggle’, but I learnt how to handle things such as the emotions, knowing that I needed to take care of myself physically and mentally. I even give myself insulin,” he told The Sunday Gleaner.
The semi-finalist’s family
If you watched his blind audition, then you will have noticed Gevanni Hutton’s supportive family watching from the side-lines.
It’s unclear whether or not he has any siblings, but Gevanni’s dad moved from Jamaica to England before he was born. His dad says they have a close bond and Gevanni moved to be with him two years ago.
The musical talent clearly runs in the family too as his dad previously worked as a wedding singer for private functions and also claims Gevanni’s mum has singing ability too.
