Where is Making the Cut filmed? Season 2 is bringing a whole new look!

With 10 designers from around the world competing to win $1 million and the opportunity to create their own clothing collection, Making the Cut is back on 16 July. The show, hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, took quite the adventure in season 1 as contestants travelled the globe.

As season 2 returns, travel restrictions due to COVID-19 have caused a few changes to filming. Unlike season 1 where contestants travelled around the world to places including Paris, New York and Tokyo, this years location is just as beautiful as you would have expected.

Where is Making The Cut season 2 be filmed?

The entire season will be filmed in Los Angeles, California or Malibu to be exact. Contestants will live out their designing journey’s in the stunning and luxurious Calamigos Ranch.

The 84-year-old Calamigos ranch and hotel, in regular use, is located in the Santa Monica Mountains featuring waterfalls and greenery, also known as Malibu’s wine country.

A notable celebrity hot-spot, this series’ filming location, despite being the only filming location, will not disappoint viewers or contestants. In episode one, designer and contestant Andrea S described the place as a dream saying, “I love the space, I love the vibe”.

When was season 2 filmed?

Although exact dates of filming are unknown, season 2 was filmed in 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. This also meant that the usual travelling for contestants to draw inspiration from other cultures was unable to take place.

Safety restrictions with social distancing and masked models had to be adhered to as the time of filming was met with so many precautions and guidelines.

However, the cast of season 2 made the Malibu ranch their own for the duration of filming with the workshop studio specially created for the designers. Host, Heidi Klum, described it as, “our own fashion bubble”.
