From Dynasties to Natural World and Blue Planet, no-one makes a nature documentary like the BBC.

On Friday night (February 8th), a special humpback whale documentary will feature on BBC Two, exploring the incredible nature of the whale and probing as to whether their ‘gentle giants’ tag could be an ill-thought assumption.

Here is everything you need to know about Humpback Whales: A Detective Story.

Humpback Whales: A Detective Story

The BBC humpback whales documentary investigates the nature of the animal and explores assumptions and myths surrounding their relationship with humans.

The 60-minute doco comes off the back of an incident in 2015, where Tom Mustill and his friend were almost killed by a humpback whale around Monterey Bay, California.

The 30-ton whale breached the surface before landing on top of their kayak.

With the incident caught on tape by a group of tourist whale spotters, it has been suggested that the whale deliberately attacked them.

In this BBC documentary, Tom returns to California to investigate the relationship between human and whale, exploring contrasting stories such as a humpback protecting a human diver from a shark.
