What is the Keto Diet?
The keto diet that featured in Save Money: Lose Weight 2019 episode 1 is a low-carb, high-fat diet.
Those on the diet are advised to eat low-carb vegetables as part of a three-meals per day schedule.
As Launa said on the episode, the diet features a wide selection of food that you’re probably unfamiliar with at first… like chia seeds!
Here’s a snapshot of the type of food to consume when on a keto diet:

Save Money: Lose Weight 2019 – Keto results
In week 1, and due to a high-sugar diet before taking part in the ITV series, human guinea-pig Lorna suffered from a severe case of ‘keto flu’.
Keto flu makes you feel tired and lethargic as the body adapts from burning sugar for energy to instead using fat.
Lorna used a ‘ketosis stick’ to confirm that her body was in a state of ‘ketosis’, where fat was being burned.
And by week 3, Lorna felt like a new woman. The initial pain was clearly worth it!

Lorna started her keto diet weighing in at 20 st 2lbs.
By the end of the 28-day challenge, she lost almost a whopping three stone.
On day 28, Lorna weighed 17st 3lbs.

How to do the keto diet
The concept of the keto diet is to avoid eating more than 50 grams of carbs per day – lower is often considered even better, although you can gradually lower your carb intake to do it more comfortably.
This means avoiding all foods like; pasta, rice, bananas, potatoes, bread, pastries, doughnuts chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, porridge and other cereals.
Instead, you should gorge on eggs, fish, meat and veg, while adding small amounts of nuts, oils, fruit and cheeses.
