Growing up in the South Downs, Luke always knew he wanted to work with food.
He claims his mother was a massive influence and she has been described as a “keen gardener and forager”. But Luke admits that “she was a terrible cook”, and that is why he picked up the job as the family’s caterer.
But it was Luke’s natural talent in the kitchen which led him to success. He’s one of just two chefs who have won both the Young National Chef of the Year and National Chef of the Year.
In 2017, Luke also won a prestigious Roux Scholarship and no chef has ever won all three competitions before!
Luke Selby’s culinary history
Luke has had an incredibly extensive and impressive career given his young age.
He was previously head chef at the Michelin-starred Dabbous and before then had experience working as a sous chef at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and chef de partie at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.
Essentially, Luke has worked with the best in Britain, so no wonder he sailed through to the banquet!
Luke is currently the head chef of Michelin-starred London restaurant, Hide Above.
Does Luke have Instagram?
Luke posts all of his best culinary creations for his 7000 followers to see on his Insta @lucasselby1.
But be warned, as his posts are bound to make you want to visit his restaurant, but it comes at a price – the tasting menus are £115 a head!
Luke’s winning banquet dish!
Luke sailed through with his starter, which he calls ‘The British Invasion’.
Inspired by The Beatles’ song ‘Til There Was You’, the judges loved Luke’s interpretation of the brief and the theatre it brought to the dining room.
