As the start date draws nearer, what do we already know about Our Shirley Valentine Summer?
We’ve speculated a little already, and introduced you to our 8 celebs looking for love and new challenges abroad.
Lucky they sneaked it in before Brexit, eh? Nobody wants half an episode of queuing for a visa!
Our Shirley Valentine Summer cast revealed: Meet the 8 ladies!
OUR SHIRLEY VALENTINE SUMMER
1. Time and Date
We all need something to watch after the World Cup, so why not Love Island for over 40’s?
Not that the shows will have much in common, according to Ninia Benjamin:
The series will be premiering on Thursday 19th July, at 9.30pm on ITV.
2. Location, Location, Location
The main action, the house that our celebrity ladies will be sharing, is located on the Greek island of Naxos. Not quite Shirley Valentine territory, but close enough.
In this first episode we’ll also be visiting the neighbouring island of Paros, “a mecca for those seeking inner peace”.
Expect to be checking how much annual leave you have left and the price of flights by the end of the episode!
3. Melinda Messenger Will be Getting Her Hands Dirty
Her personal challenge while in Greece is to ‘live off the land’, so we’ll presumably seeing Melinda get involved with a lot of olive oil. We don’t envy her all that manual labour in the baking Greek sun, though.
Will she be keeping her housemates supplied with fresh fruit and veg? Or will they end up sneaking off to the local farmers’ market behind her back?
At least she’s got the dungarees for the job!
4. Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me a Match…
And we don’t mean the little boxes of chocolate.
With most of the ladies, including Ingrid Tarrant, Nancy Dell’Olio, and Ninia Benjamin all looking for love, they turn to a professional.
A third generation matchmaker, no less.
Nancy says she’s going to be his biggest challenge to match, but Ninia hasn’t done the long-term commitment thing for 20 years, so it’s going to get competitive between our celebs.
5. Someone Takes a Shine to Sian
After all her years of predicting the weather, Sian should be an expert at spotting a sudden warm front.
When the group combine dance and meditation on Paros, rumour has it things will get very ‘revealing’.
Will their local guide reveal their not-so-subtle crush? Or will Sian remain oblivious?
6. Aggie is Making a Statement
As an advocate for ‘sex in your 60s’, Aggie Mackenzie has more than clean countertops in mind for her time in Greece.
The most intriguing part about Our Shirley Valentine Summer is how the group will react to some succeeding quicker than others. Will they comfort each other in failure? Or will there be some Grade A gloating going on?
At least if the living off the land experiment fails for Melinda, Aggie has some skills to bring to the villa’s table.
7. Annabel is Looking For ‘Joy and Adventure’
Is that just a longer way of saying ‘a date’, since that’s what almost everyone else seems to be after? She’s trading the Brighton seaside for a Greek one, so she should be the least out of her element.
As a trained psychotherapist, will the other celebs end up on her couch asking for advice? Does she have a game plan that plays on the psychology of the group? Only one way to find out…
