The final of MasterChef 2019 will air tonight (Friday, March 29th)

More than 50 amateur chefs entered the competition on day one, with judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace whittling those numbers down to just three finalists.

How does MasterChef work?

Initially, there were 56 amateur cooks competing against one other.

In each episode, the chefs battled it out in the kitchen to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, with only a select few slithering through to the knockout rounds and semi-finals.

The final week saw the remaining five contestants in Hong Kong – Irini, Jilly, Geoff, Delia and Thomas – with episodes airing on Tuesday (March 26th), Wednesday, Thursday.

Jilly, the former rugby player for Scotland and now chef-wonder, has become a real fan-favourite.

She won her spot in the semi-finals with a delicious poached pear dish.

Delia Asser

Taking influences from her Spanish heritage and her love for travel, police officer Delia has continued to amaze the judges with her cooking skills from around the world.

Irini Tzortzoglou

Sixty-year-old Irini has been the sweetheart of the competition.

Despite her gentle nature, she is a real fierce cook and definitely could sail through to the final.

MasterChef just wouldn’t be the same without dynamic duo John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

As always, the pair will be casting their eyes over the cooking and offering their expert culinary opinions.

John is an Australian chef while Greg is a baking expert. They will be joined by a host of former contestants, professional chefs and critics to help judge the budding chefs throughout the series.
