Who is 'social media expert' Simon? Meet Alan Partridge's co-star from This Time on BBC One

This Time With Alan Partridge has been a triumphant success.

The hilarious six-part series will come to a close on Monday, April 1st, as the Alan wrap’s up his time on the fictional BBC series with a bang.

Guiding him along the way has been co-host Susannah Fieldingand so-called social media expert Simon Denton. Also known as Sidekick Simon from Al’s sting on the Mid Morning Matters radio show, here’s everything you need to know about the character and actor.

Who is the Character Simon Denton?

Simon Denton, or Sidekick Simon, doesn’t have much of a backstory in the world of Alan Partridge.

All we know is that he joined Alan as his co-host on Mid Morning Matters, with Alan admitting that his sidekick was “really funny” and “that’s why they booked him”.

Simon and Al are known for their natural chemistry and ‘riffing’, while Simon has an extreme knack for taking jokes too far and embarrassing Alan when he gets facts wrong.

Who Plays Sidekick Simon?

Sidekick Simon is played by comedian, actor and writer Tim Key.

The 42-year-old spent his early career dotting across comedy clubs and poetry shows after graduating from the University of Sheffield.

Some of his poems have made it onto TV series, such as ‘Bankers’ on Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe.

In acting, Tim played Mark’s flatmate in series 9 of British favourite Peep Show while also starring in E4 series comedy-drama Gap Year.

He has been a regular writer for The Independent Magazine and The Guardian and has a handful of his own books such as The Incomplete Tim Key and 25 Poems, 3 Recipes and 32 Other Suggestions.

How to Watch  This Time with Alan Partridge

The new Alan Partridge series will come to a close on Monday, Apri 1st.

Titled This Time, sixth and final episode will air on BBC One at 9:30 pm.
