It’s an argument that often erupts in your local Wetherspoons.

Instead of tapping on the quiz machine and earing a few pounds for themselves, Britons across the country end up in fierce arguments over who the best Chaser is from popular ITV show The Chase.

The Beast and The Governess are normally among the top two names dropped into the convo, but what do the stats say? Who is the best Chaser statistically? And who is the worst Chaser?

Who are the Chasers?

The five-strong quizmasters on ITV show The Chase, hosted by Bradley Walsh, are referred to as the Chasers.

They all come with quirky nicknames, too:

  • Anne Hegerty – The Governess
  • Shaun Wallace – The Dark Destroyer
  • Paul Sinha – The Sinnerman
  • The Vixen – Jenny Ryan
  • The Beast – Mark Labbett

Who is the best Chaser on The Chase?

The Governess – aka Anne Hegerty.

Thanks to those brainboxes at One Question Shoot we have statistics as recent as March 2019 for all of The Chase Chasers.

Win percentages between all five are incredibly tight, although we can confirm that Anne has the best win ratio across the 12 seasons (season 13 just started).

What is Anne’s win percentage?

In over 350 episodes, Anne has maintained a remarkable win percentage of 82.4%.

She seems to be getting better too, with an average win ratio of 78% in seasons 1-12 increasing to 86% in the latest season of ITV’s popular quiz show.

Who is the second best?

Paul Sinha.

Also known as The Sinnerman, Paul’s win percentage is remarkably close to Anne’s, just 0.1% less.

The 48-year-old must have brushed up on his general knowledge over the past few years as he has developed from the lowest scoring Chaser to one of the highest.

Who is the worst Chaser?

In terms of the stats, you really have to use the term ‘worst’ lightly.

All five Chasers have very close win ratios.

That said, there always has to be a loser, and it is The Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace.

Shaun has an average win percentage of 75.1% across all of the episodes from season 1 to March 2019.

Chin up, Shaun.
