Fans of ITV have noticed some rather unsubtle changes to the channel’s trademark theme tunes.
Shows and series such as Coronation Street, The Chase and This Morning have all had their usual theme tunes tweaked.
For those who don’t like change – like 99.9% of the Corrie viewership – the move caused national outrage.
But why has ITV changed their music? And is it there to stay?
Why is the Music Different on ITV?
A host of ITV’s flagship shows including Emmerdale, Coronation Street, The Chase and This Morning have had their theme tunes modified.
It didn’t take a musical expert to spot the changes that were chucked into action on Wednesday night (November 14th).
Earlier in the day, ITV tweeted to say:
The title music of some of our shows has been given a piano twist today…
Elton John and the Christmas John Lewis Advert
On Thursday night (November 15th), the first showing of the new John Lewis Christmas advert aired on ITV at 9.15 pm.
This then joined up the dots concerning ITV’s piano theme.
It was all about the John Lewis Christmas ad, which you can watch below.
The ad, named The Boy and the Piano, follows Sir Elton’s journey through life and music. It all leads back to the moment he received a piano as a gift for Christmas.
Sir Elton then worked with ITV to help create the special piano theme tune for a variety of their shows.
Is the New ITV Music There to Stay?
ITV have not confirmed whether the new theme tunes are there to stay.
However, looking at the disgruntled reaction from the general public, we can’t image that Elton’s piano solos will stick around for long.
