This is what it is all about. This is the reason I wanted to do the X Factor.
Not just to come back and prove I’ve still got it, but to give back to my community and do something good. I’m so proud and so glad to meet you all.
Danny Tetley: Pop Idol
Danny appeared on Pop Idol in 2001, where he even performed in front of Simon Cowell.
However, it was 15 years later where he became the victim of a cruel joke.
Performing as a special guest on ITV sitcom Benidorm, the cheerful Yorkshireman was seen singing during the season 9 finale.
Sherrie Hewson’s character, Joyce Temple-Savage, mocked Danny’s cleft lip by saying: “The voice of a 13-year-old girl and a face like a dropped pie.”
Although Ofcom received 131 complaints, the issue did not go any further.
Nevertheless, Danny always felt that his downfall on Pop Idol was his image, recently adding that “the music industry was much more image led.”
